{"id":6211,"date":"2022-05-25T16:07:03","date_gmt":"2022-05-25T16:07:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.circularactionhub.org\/?p=6211"},"modified":"2022-05-25T16:07:03","modified_gmt":"2022-05-25T16:07:03","slug":"plastic-credit-standard-setters-welcome-global-plastics-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.circularactionhub.org\/plastic-credit-standard-setters-welcome-global-plastics-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"Plastic credit standard setters welcome global plastics agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BVRio has today, as part of a group of voluntary standard setters under the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/prevent-waste.net\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PREVENT Waste Alliance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and with support from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yunusenvironmenthub.com\/valucred\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ValuCred consortium<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, released a joint statement welcoming the resolution \u2018End plastic pollution: Towards an international legally binding instrument\u2019 adopted at the fifth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) in Nairobi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The statement champions the use of Plastic Credits as one part of the solution, citing that \u2018plastic credits have the potential to play a powerful and complementary role on the full life cycle of plastics alongside local\/national policies such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, recycling or reduction laws.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/prevent-waste.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Joint-Statement-Voluntary-Standard-Setters-for-Plastic-Credits_May-2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read the full statement<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BVRio Director, Pedro Moura Costa, commented, \u201cOver the last decade BVRio has been developing financial mechanisms which help producers meet their waste responsibilities, first through our development of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bvrio.org\/en\/blog\/details\/reverse-logistics-credits-project-case-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reverse Logistics Credits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Brazil, then the global <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularactionhub.org\/certification\/circular-credits-mechanism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Circular Credits Mechanism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
